Back to School in Middle Tennessee
It’s time for students and teachers across Middle Tennessee to head back to school! It’s hard to believe how fast 2021 is flying by!
As we prep the kids for another school year, we are preparing ourselves as well. After all, we have school supplies to purchase, lunches to pre-plan and pack, and bedtime routines to adjust. As parents, we will take all of the help we can get! That’s why we put together this helpful list of resources for families heading back to school here in Middle Tennessee.
Tennessee Tax-Free Weekend
This year, Tennessee’s tax-free weekend will begin on Friday, July 30th, and last through Sunday, August 1st. Tax-free items include clothing, computers, food items, and more. For more details on what types of purchases will be exempt from sales tax, check out this resource.
Middle Tennessee is a thriving, growing community. Cities throughout the region host events for holidays and occasions throughout the year. As students head back to school, several organizations are going all out to start the year off in high spirits.
On July 24th, The Experience Community will host a Back-to-School Bash to help single parents with school supplies. Then, on July 31st, an organization in Antioch will host its Back-to-School Celebration. This one will feature food trucks, vendors, and a 1,000+ backpack giveaway. And on August 7th, an event in Murfreesboro will guide teens through common challenges with boundaries and relationships. This event, Godfidence 2.0, centers around encouraging teens to be confident in who God says they are. Additionally, the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee is hosting a Back-to-School Bash and Pizza Party on August 2nd. Victory Baptist Church in Mount Juliet is the venue for this fun back-to-school event.

Discounts for Teachers and Students going Back to School
Some stores are offering discounts for students or teachers heading back to school. Target, for example, is offering a teacher discount of 15% through the Target Circle program. Staples is also offering a 20% discount to teachers. Additionally, Staples has a program to help everyone give back to educators.
College students going back to school can take advantage of a wide variety of discounts, as well. According to this helpful resource, college students can receive discounts on Hulu, Spotify Premium, SHOWTIME (more info here), and Amazon Prime memberships. Parents, teachers, and students looking for more deals can check out this resource for a few more tips and tricks.
Great Locations for Planning Homeschool Field Trip Days
For some, the commute back to school is just a few steps from the bed to the kitchen table or home office. But even homeschooling families feel a little cabin fever every now and then. For those who are embracing homeschool routines this year, Middle Tennessee offers several educational sites for students.
